I’ve been involved with Scouting since 2010, starting as a Beaver with the 14th Barrie Group. That same group is now known as Barrie Phoenix following a 2023 merger with 1st Mapleview. in 2024 I also joined the 1st Kempenfelt Bay Group due to a smaller number of Vents and Rovers in Barrie Phoenix, giving me the chance to stay connected with peers my age.
Somewhere, there’s photographic evidence of my Beaver investiture-but trust me, you don’t want to see it.
Over the years, I’ve had the chance to attend some incredible events:
- As a Cub, I attended the Canadian Cub Jamboree 2016 (CCJ16) at Camp Everton in Rockwood, Ontario.
- As a Scout, I attended the Canadian Jamboree 2017 (CJ17) at Camp Nedooae in Elderbank, Nova Scotia, and Pacific Jamboree 2019 (PJ19) at Camp Barnard in Sooke, British Columbia.
- As a Venturer, I went on a 20-day international trip centered around Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Kandersteg, Switzerland. The trip, originally planned for 2020 but delayed to 2022 due to COVID, also included stops in Lyon, France, Geneva, Switzerland, Interlaken, Switzerland, and Venice, Italy and was absolutely worth the wait.
- I participated in SCOPE 2023 at Resica Falls Scout Reservation in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where we had the opportunity to camp alongside with Scouts from Scouting America.
- In SCOPE 2024, hosted at Woodland Trails Scout Camp, in Stouffville, Ontario, we once again had the chance to connect with Scouts from the US – this time on Canadian Soil.
In fall 2023, I spearheaded the creation of the Barrie Platypus RoVent Alliance, a joint Venturer Company and Rover Crew uniting youth from groups across Barrie and Innsifil. You can read more about that here.
In 2024,I also found myself serving as Event Lead for the Local Kub Kar / Scout Truck, which was both fun and rewarding I am continuing with this role for probably a long time, maybe in 2026 we will see a different winner with Scout Trucks.
Then in 2025 I attended the World Rover Moot in Portugal. After the Moot, we traveled to Udine, Italy, to reconnect with a former exchange student who had been part of the 1st Kempenfelt Bay Venturer Company, and then finished the trip exploring Rome.
Looking ahead, I’m part of the Contingent Management Team for Scouts Canada’s 2026 Trip to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC 2026) with 51 participants attending locally from Barrie and Innisfil and around 300 from across Canada its an adventure I’m incredibly excited for.
Most recently, I’ve also been selected as one of three Council Voting Representatives For Shining Waters Council for the 2025-2026 Scouting Year, helping to shape the direction of Scouting across the Council.
